In fact, building on any 10.4 operating system needs this patch.
p2cstr(x) is an obsolete function from old Macintosh era created when  
Mac's system moved from Pascal to C (some internal calls remained  
Pascal string). It had not been present in the versions of Carbon on  
old OSX systems, but was added back on 10.4 for compatibility.
