Yuck.  I wasn't aware that there is one.... :-(  shame on me.

Well, it was consistent, because the new point automatically got
highlighted in the list.  So highlighted = current = red.
At least I got used to that fast enough to rate it 'intuitive' and
stumble if it' changed...

True, I remember having read something like that.  Would still be nice
to have some minimal storage possibility for the beta release...

True.  It jumps away, depending on the position within the window.  
Gimp's grab-and-drag is more intuitive.
