  Hi Bruno,

indeed this way of combining images works rather well (I'm using it in
my image processing code here at university).  It is well capable of
getting smooth transitions between overlapping images.  However, in my
case there are no geometric distortions between the subparts, so I
guess indeed some work might be needed to handle probable misalignments.

But doesn't the 'normal' stitching do something similar, just that it
is not using the image center, but the seam as reference?
What happens if you increase the seam width (parameter u) to real
large values?
