I would add to what others have said:
* Try to use only 2 vertical lines (one on each end)
* Make them as large as you can.
* Add one horizontal line in the horizon (it _must_ be your horizon, this is important)
Now, the problem with your control lines is that
* they are too short
* they are not really vertical.
If you can go back to the church you will notice that the tower gets
smaller as it gets higher. So the lines are not really perpendicular
to the horizon.
