autopano-sift is a program for automatic keypoint generation. for me  
it makes the whole panorama generation a very simple process:

1: think a bit when taking the photos (e.g large overlap)
2: load images into hugin
3: let autopano-sift generate the keypoints
4: optimize
5: correct some points (most of the time not necessary!)
6: render the image

unfortunately the integration of autopano-sift is broken in hugin 0.6  
which makes the generation of panoramas much more timeconsuming :-)
