I'm not sure this is useful to many people on the list, since it is not
free software[1]. I didn't see a Mac OS X or Linux version, nor source
code that would allow any of us to port it to those platforms.

Yes, but enblend is free software available under the GNU GPL. If you
would like to help out, perhaps you should consider contributing your
algorithms to enblend.
