I get the same here on a win2k box at work.

That's related to the fact some Win32 syscalls consider
everything after the first dot being an extension. So it
refuses to delete a file with no filename body but just the
extension.

Maybe a cygwin build may help as cygwin may take care of this
win32 specific behavior.
