I' using PTOpenGui and I'm following your discussions.

There is a nice Tutorial for PTGui with a lot of screenshots available here:
http://www.dffe.at/panotools04.html (unfortunately only in german language)
Maybe it helps and gives you an impression of PTGui without installing it.
