Hence why we saw the BBC English Regions radio car pootling along in front our Jazz this morning... "PCS members and supporters in Sheffield are to stage an eight--hour long demonstration on Monday (23 January). The protest is against the planned closure of the local office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), and has been called to coincide with a visit to the premises by transport minister Mike Penning. Mr Penning announced the closure of 39 DVLA offices with the loss of about 1,200 jobs in December.PCS members and colleagues from Sheffield trades union council will keep vigil outside the building from 9am to 5pm talking to customers about the campaign to save the office. Trades unionists are urged to attend whenever they can on Monday at DVLA, Cedar House, Hallamshire Court, 63 Napier Street, Sheffield, S11 8HA. A motor trade manager from Devon has started a petition on a government website to reverse the closure plans. Sign it here The Department for Transport is running a consultation exercise on the scheme – responses must be submitted by Tuesday, 6 March."
